Ireland: Finally some Thai white rice

14/9/12

It was supposedly the first day of work but we were told that it would be another touring day around the college because there were visitors and they were all busy.

We went to the Chinese Supermarket because we have decided to make steamboat for dinner. At first I did not intend to speak Chinese to the Chinese lady but we started doing so after having some difficulties communicating. We bought kimchi, rice, beef, eggs, cuttlefish balls etc. After making payment, we started chatting with the Chinese lady. She has been here for 5 years. Her husband is working here and her daughter is also studying here.

We also asked if she feels any discrimination from the locals. We asked this because on the way to the Chinese Supermarket, we were honked by a few oncoming cars. At first, we thought that it was nothing but they started honking at us with trumpet sounds (mocking/funny feel) and showing us thumbs up. Afterwhich we sensed that its probably racism. However, the Chinese lady said that she did not sense it and said that they were really nice people and more approachable than the people in her country.

Chinese food is the best!

P.S. We finally had white rice today.
